Arbor Wood Co. Announces Claire Peterlin Appointed to the Board of Directors of the International ThermoWood® Association
St. Joe, IN — December 11, 2025 — Arbor Wood Co., the leading U.S. manufacturer of ThermoWood® products, is proud to announce that Claire Peterlin, Chief of Staff and Director of Sustainability, has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the International ThermoWood® Association (ITWA). Peterlin’s appointment marks two significant milestones: she becomes only the second woman to serve on the board and the first-ever representative from the United States.
The International ThermoWood® Association, headquartered in Finland, oversees global standards, licensing, and the advancement of ThermoWood® technology—an internationally recognized benchmark for sustainable, high-performance wood modification. With Arbor Wood Co. being the first and only U.S. ThermoWood® member, Peterlin’s presence on the board underscores both the company’s commitment and growing influence on the global thermally modified wood industry.
“There is significant work ahead for the ITWA in the U.S., and I see Arbor Wood’s role as absolutely critical in that effort” says Tuuli Luoranen, Chair of the Board of Directors for ITWA. “I am thrilled that Arbor Wood has joined ITWA and that Claire has been elected to the Board. It is essential that this work is driven through strong U.S. representation, and Claire is a fantastic addition—bringing energy, expertise, and a deep understanding of the U.S. market. The 2026 Board is strong and committed, and I’m genuinely excited for the year ahead.”
The purpose of the ITWA is to increase knowledge concerning thermally modified timber and timber modified with methods related to thermal modification. Further, the association aims to enhance the general conditions under which thermally modified timber is produced and used. The association also looks after the common interests of the members. There are currently 8 members on the board.
“We are thrilled to see Claire step into this influential global role,” said Jon Heyesen, CEO of Arbor Wood Co. “Her leadership, technical expertise, and commitment to innovation have been central to Arbor Wood Co.’s growth. Claire’s appointment brings a fresh and important perspective to the International ThermoWood® Association, and we’re incredibly proud to see her representing both Arbor Wood Co. and the United States on this international stage.”
Peterlin has played a pivotal role in Arbor Wood Co.’s operational development, quality systems, and alignment with ThermoWood® standards. Her voice on the board will help shape the future of ThermoWood® practices, sustainability initiatives, and global industry collaboration.
“I’m honored to join the Board of Directors and to represent both Arbor Wood Co. and the United States within the International ThermoWood® Association,” said Peterlin. “ThermoWood® has a powerful future in sustainable design and building, and I’m excited to contribute to its continued growth worldwide—while helping to expand its presence and understanding here in North America.”
Peterlin’s appointment reaffirms Arbor Wood Co.’s dedication to advancing ThermoWood® technology, strengthening international partnerships, and promoting sustainable, high-performance wood products across the architecture, design, and construction industries.
